In Haveri district, students at C.G. Bellad Government First Grade College protested the hijab ban by wearing saffron shawls on December 4. Around 50 students, including some female students, came to class with saffron shawls. No issues arose as lecturers did not object. On December 5, students again brought shawls, prompting talks with college authorities. The students said the principal failed to enforce uniform code by not allowing hijabs on campus despite repeated requests. Principal Viresh Kummur said that students remove hijabs once inside the college and attended classes in regular uniform. The saffron shawl protest followed after two students wore hijabs on December 3. Tensions led to a ban on mobile phones and increased checks at the college. The principal added that the issue is being resolved through discussions, with a meeting scheduled for December 5.
