Air passengers faced delays and cancellations at Chennai airport on Friday, December 5, 2025, as IndiGo canceled 31 flights. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) said IndiGo requested Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials to stop all departing passengers from entering the terminal until 6 p.m. because many passengers were still in check-in and boarding areas. The chaos followed similar disruptions on Thursday when 31 flights were also canceled. Officials reported that between 2:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m., 20 departure flights to cities like New Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Guwahati, Pune, Kochi, Bengaluru, Singapore, Mumbai, Coimbatore, and Port Blair were canceled. Additionally, 11 arrival flights from cities including Bengaluru, Hindon, Kolkata, Jaipur, New Delhi, and Mumbai were canceled for operational reasons. All flights departing for Bengaluru, Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, and Hyderabad until 6 p.m. were canceled. The cancellations are linked to poor pilot rostering after new rules on pilots’ rest and duty hours started on November 1. IndiGo apologized for the disruption, stating, "The last two days have seen widespread disruption across IndiGo’s network and operations. We extend a heartfelt apology to all our customers and industry stakeholders who have been impacted by these events." The airline added that its teams are working with government and airport authorities to restore normal flight operations. IndiGo urged passengers to check flight statuses online before going to the airport, saying, "IndiGo deeply regrets the inconvenience caused and remains focused on streamlining its operations at the earliest."
