IndiGo Cancels 16 Flights From Visakhapatnam, Disrupting Travel for ODI Cricket Coverage
December 5, 2025
IndiGo flights faced cancellations from airports across India for the third day on December 5, 2025. At Visakhapatnam International Airport alone, eight flights were cancelled on this day, including an international flight to Abu Dhabi. This brings the total number of cancelled flights at Visakhapatnam over three days to 16. The cancelled IndiGo flights include: 218 Bengaluru-Visakhapatnam-Bengaluru, 307 Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam-Hyderabad, 1444 Abu Dhabi-Visakhapatnam-Abu Dhabi, 6645 Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam-Hyderabad, 6089 Chennai-Visakhapatnam-Chennai, 779 Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam-Hyderabad, and 617 Kolkata-Visakhapatnam-Kolkata. Journalists travelling to Visakhapatnam to cover the One Day International (ODI) cricket match between India and South Africa on December 6 faced major issues. Their IndiGo flights were cancelled, and the airline did not offer alternative plans. Prices for other flights surged sharply. Photo journalist A. Mahesh Kumar from Associated Press, booked from Hyderabad, said, "I became jittery and started searching for alternative flights and was lucky enough to get a seat on the Air India Express flight from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam via Vijayawada, scheduled to leave Hyderabad at 6.30 p.m. on December 5, for ₹19,000." Another journalist, Debyanshu Sarkar from Agence France-Presse, cancelled his trip after his Kolkata-Visakhapatnam flight was cancelled and the rescheduled ticket was for December 8, after the match. He also noted, "There was no point in reaching Visakhapatnam after December 6. There were no other direct flights from Kolkata to Visakhapatnam, and if I have to travel via Mumbai, I have to shell out ₹70,000." Meanwhile, members of Team India and the South African team arrived in Visakhapatnam on December 4. This continuing flight disruption adds to travel woes just ahead of the much-anticipated ODI cricket match.
