Trump Administration Orders Review of Green Cards and Asylum Cases from 19 Countries, Causing Delays
December 5, 2025
The Trump administration has ordered a full re-review of all Green Cards issued during the Biden administration to nationals from 19 countries. All asylum cases approved from these countries will also be checked again. Ricky Murray, ex-chief of staff at USCIS, told Newsweek this order is unprecedented and will cause huge delays. He said, "This is going to have a tremendous effect on the backlog." He added thousands of work hours will be used to recheck cases, slowing new applications. Murray also criticised the move for targeting thousands of immigrants who are not linked to the event prompting this order. The USCIS has paused all asylum requests while doing a full review. Immigration requests from 19 countries are also on hold. The government may call some candidates for new or repeat interviews to check their security risks. This detailed case-by-case reassessment is expected to slow down immigration processing significantly.
