An Electric Tractor Mela and Krishi Samvaada took place at the College of Horticulture on the UHS campus in Bengaluru on December 4. The event was organised by the Centre of Excellence for Farmer Producer Organisations (CoE FPO) with NRDC, Villgro, and Moonrider. More than 200 farmers from over 100 FPOs across Karnataka attended, showing strong interest in clean and affordable farm machinery. Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy opened the mela and launched Moonrider’s electric tractors. He called this "a historic moment for sustainable farming." CoE FPO Director Seetharamu G.K. said electric tractors can reduce operational costs by up to 75%, especially when used with solar power. NRDC also launched its report Powering Agriculture at the event. The report states electric tractors give up to 80% lower running costs and 50% lower ownership costs, along with better health for farmers. Leaders from NRDC, Moonrider, and Villgro stressed the importance of innovation and FPO-led Custom Hiring Centres to speed up electric tractor adoption. University and government officials expressed hope that these technologies will benefit farmers across Karnataka.
