A cheetah cub was found dead on Friday, December 5, 2025, one day after being released into the wild at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh. The release happened on International Cheetah Day, December 4, when Chief Minister Mohan Yadav set free female cheetah Veera and her two cubs into the park's free-ranging area. The cub, about 10 months old, got separated from its mother and sibling overnight and was found dead hours later. A forest official said, "One of Veera’s cubs, aged around 10 months, was found dead in the forest on Friday afternoon." The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report is received. Meanwhile, Veera and her other cub are doing well and remain together. Currently, Kuno National Park houses 28 cheetahs — 8 adults (5 females, 3 males) and 20 cubs born in India. The official confirmed that all surviving cheetahs are healthy.
