Woman Charged in US-Canada Border Smuggling of Indian Nationals
December 6, 2025
Stacey Taylor, 42, from Plattsburgh, New York, has been charged in a major alien smuggling case. A federal grand jury indicted her in October for helping bring people, mostly from India, illegally into the US across the border with Canada. Border Patrol caught Taylor’s vehicle near Churubusco, New York, in January 2025. Four men inside her car included three Indian nationals and one Canadian. They had crossed the border without inspection. Authorities found text messages on her phone showing she took part in several smuggling trips before. The indictment says Taylor is charged with conspiracy to smuggle aliens and four counts of alien smuggling for profit. Three of these are repeat offenses. Matthew Galeotti, Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, said if convicted, Taylor faces a minimum of five years in prison for each smuggling count, with extra time for repeat crimes. Her illegal activities went on at least until September 2025, according to court records.
