IndiGo Cancels Over 220 Flights at Delhi and Mumbai as Disruptions Enter Sixth Day
December 7, 2025
IndiGo cancelled more than 220 flights at Delhi and Mumbai airports on Sunday, December 7, 2025. The disruptions have lasted six days, causing huge delays and problems for thousands of passengers.
Sources said 112 flights were cancelled in Mumbai and 109 in Delhi on Sunday. On Friday, IndiGo had cancelled about 1,600 out of its 2,300 daily flights but cut that to 800 on Saturday. The airline ran 1,500 flights on Saturday.
IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers and COO Porqueras received notices from the aviation regulator DGCA asking for explanations within 24 hours. The DGCA said major failures in planning and resource management caused the chaos. It blamed poor arrangements to meet new Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) rules.
The DGCA formed a four-member inquiry panel to find out the causes and suggest fixes. The panel includes senior officers and pilots. It must report back in 15 days so regulators can act.
Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu and senior officials held a serious meeting with IndiGo's CEO on Saturday. They asked the airline to fully follow the new FDTL rules and restore normal flight operations quickly. They also told IndiGo to refund cancelled tickets by 8 pm Sunday.
Authorities said they may take strong action against IndiGo and its leaders depending on inquiry results. The government aims to reduce passenger trouble and cap airfares until flights stabilize.
IndiGo said it reduced flights on Friday to reboot the network and improve stability. Early signs showed some improvement on Saturday, but disruptions still continue on Sunday.
