Saudi Arabia announced a new Resident ID system. It replaces the old yearly Iqama renewal with one card lasting 5 years. This means residents avoid yearly visits to passport offices. Over 13 million people will benefit. The process moves online through Absher, the official e-services platform. Residents will pay a single fee around SAR 500 for adults and SAR 600 for domestic workers. This replaces multiple smaller annual payments. Absher lets users renew permits, update data, pay fees, and track applications all online. The card acts as a trusted digital ID for many official transactions. To get the physical card and documents, residents register a postal address via the Wasil mail service. The Interior Ministry’s e-services will handle all Resident ID tasks now. This big change is a key part of Saudi Vision 2030 to modernize government services. Officials expect to cut 65 million office visits over five years. Experts forecast a 2.6 billion Riyal economic gain from saved time and better productivity. Dr. Khalid called it "a qualitative leap, like moving from copper coins to bank cards." The new Resident ID system promises faster, easier life for Saudi residents.
