Kerala is gearing up for local body polls on December 9 and 11. State Election Commissioner A. Shajahan announced 2,535 polling stations marked as 'sensitive'. Kannur district, voting in Phase II on December 11, tops the list with 1,025 sensitive stations. Phase I covers seven districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, with 480 sensitive stations. Thiruvananthapuram district alone has 186 sensitive locations, split between 70 urban and 116 rural areas. To boost security, these stations will have live webcasts and video coverage. Shajahan warned, "Instances of hindering the election process, fake votes and violations of the model code of conduct (MCC) will attract stern legal action." About 71,000 police personnel will be on duty across both phases to maintain peace and order during the elections.
