Karnataka Raises Maize Purchase Limit to 50 Quintals Per Farmer at ₹2400 MSP
December 7, 2025
Karnataka has increased the maximum maize purchase limit for each farmer to 50 quintals, up from 20 quintals. This change follows protests by maize growers demanding fairer procurement rules.
The new order allows buying up to 12 quintals per acre, with a total ceiling of 50 quintals per farmer. The purchase price remains at ₹2,400 per quintal. Procurement will rely on landholding data from the FRUITS platform. Priority will go to Primary Agricultural Credit Societies near distilleries.
Poultry feed manufacturers can now buy maize directly from farmers for the 2025–26 kharif season. The government issued this separate order on December 4, aiming to improve prices by cutting out middlemen and widening sales channels.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah led a meeting pushing poultry industry players to source about five lakh tonnes of maize. The Karnataka Poultry Farmers and Breeders Association will start by buying 5,000 tonnes with 20% upfront payment.
Procurement will follow MSP quality rules, including a maximum 12% moisture level suitable for poultry feed. These new steps will work alongside Karnataka State Co-operative Marketing Federation’s maize supply to distilleries.
The government hopes these efforts will boost farmers’ income and streamline maize marketing in the state.
