Idukki Local Body Polls End with Vigorous Kottikalasham Campaigns and Tamil Parties Active
December 7, 2025
The last day of campaigning for the local body elections in Idukki district ended on Sunday evening with vibrant Kottikalasham events in towns like Munnar, Thodupuzha, and Kattappana. Political parties tried hard to attract voters with lively rallies. In plantation areas, the campaign was bilingual, mixing Tamil and Malayalam. Tamil posters, announcements, and popular Tamil film songs engaged voters in Tamil-speaking areas. Candidates mostly campaigned near churches, aiming to win the Christian vote. Tamil Nadu parties AIADMK, DMK, and VCK entered the race, fielding candidates in Tamil-majority areas of Devikulam and Peerumade taluks. These parties also held energetic Kottikalashams on Sunday. Leaders said Tamil voters make up 38% in Peerumade, 28% in Udumbanchola, and about 50% in Devikulam. On the last day, the United Democratic Front (UDF) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) focused on the Sabarimala gold theft issue, while the Left Democratic Front (LDF) highlighted Kerala’s developmental progress to gain voter support.
