Manipur's Kuki-Zo community has declared that their 10 MLAs, including seven from BJP, will not engage in forming a government if President's rule in the state ceases. This stance highlights the escalating ethnic and political divisions in Manipur. The decision was made during a joint meeting of key Kuki-Zo civil society organizations and community bodies at Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) secretariat on Friday. Representatives from KIM, its units, district units, and department heads were present. Manipur has been under President's Rule since February due to ongoing ethnic tensions between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, which began in May 2023. The joint meeting adopted a resolution emphasizing that the community will not compromise on its ancestral land, culture, identity, and political, social, and economic rights. Although not explicitly demanding statehood or administrative separation, this unified stance is viewed as a direct challenge against any efforts to normalize politics in Manipur without addressing Kuki-Zo grievances.
