Pachakkanam, a tiny polling station located inside the Periyar Tiger Reserve (PTR), now has just 29 voters. This makes it one of the stations with the fewest voters in the state. The booth is inside an Anganwadi building in Pachakkanam, part of the new Mullaperiyar ward in Kumily grama panchayat. According to Kumily grama panchayat secretary R. Ashok, there are 16 men and 13 women voters registered here. He added, “We will arrange all facilities for a smooth polling in the booth.” Officials say the number of voters at Pachakkanam has been steadily dropping since 2016, when there were 39 voters for the Assembly elections. The decline reflects the isolated nature of this polling station inside the forest reserve.
