Thailand Launches Airstrikes Along Cambodia Border After Deadly Clashes
December 8, 2025
Thailand has launched airstrikes along its disputed border with Cambodia, the Thai military said on Monday. This follows deadly clashes in which one Thai soldier was killed and four wounded. Later, a second soldier died. Both countries blame each other for breaking a ceasefire deal brokered by Donald Trump. Cambodia’s defence ministry said Thai forces attacked Cambodian troops around 5 am Monday but Cambodia did not retaliate. Former Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen urged his forces to stay calm, warning that Thailand was trying to "pull us into retaliation." Recently, fighting had killed at least 48 people and forced 300,000 to flee their homes. On Sunday, Thailand evacuated about 35,000 villagers across four provinces near the border. Thai army spokesperson Winthai Suvaree confirmed the airstrikes were to stop Cambodian attacks and said, "Thai soldiers were attacked with supporting fire weapons, resulting in one soldier killed and four wounded." This situation is still developing.
