Karnataka Deputy CM Orders Expert Panel to Fight Rising Bengaluru Pollution
December 8, 2025
Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar has asked the Chief Secretary to form an expert committee to stop Bengaluru from facing a severe pollution crisis. This decision came after MLC Dinesh Gooligowda warned that Bengaluru’s air quality could worsen like Delhi’s if urgent action is not taken. Bengaluru has over 1.23 crore registered vehicles for a population of 1.47 crore. Every day, around 2,563 new vehicles join the city roads. Two-wheelers alone number over 84 lakh. The current Air Quality Index (AQI) is moderate, between 50 and 70, but experts fear it will reach severe levels in the next 10 years. Children and elderly residents are already suffering from breathing problems, allergies, asthma, and heart diseases linked to pollution. Mr. Gooligowda has asked for a special panel of environmental scientists, traffic experts, health specialists, and government officials to suggest clear solutions. The Deputy Chief Minister has ordered quick action by related departments to tackle the issue without delay.
