On December 8, 2025, farmers under the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) protested across Punjab against the Centre's draft Electricity Amendment Bill, 2025, and the draft Seed Bill, 2025. They demanded the bills be withdrawn. The protests included employees of the State power utility and featured burning of copies of the proposed bills. Protests took place in Hoshiarpur outside Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) offices near Maharana Pratap Chowk at Mukerian, Dasuya, Sham Chaurasi, and Marnaian Khurd. In Garhshankar, protesters marched from Gandhi Park to PSPCL's executive engineer's office. Mohali also saw protests outside the PSPCL sub-divisional office with slogans against the Union Government. Farmers groups like the Kirti Kisan Union, Kisan Committee Doaba, Jamhoori Kisan Sabha, Kul Hind Kisan Sabha, and Bharti Kisan Union (Rajewal) led the demonstrations. They described the Electricity Amendment Bill as "anti-farmer and anti-people," warning it would push power sector privatisation and increase consumer costs. They called the Seed Bill harmful and accused it of reintroducing elements similar to the repealed farm laws. A few days earlier, the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha held a two-hour 'rail roko' protest in Punjab against the Electricity Amendment Bill, 2025.
