A tragic fire broke out late on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora, North Goa, claiming 25 lives and injuring six. The investigation is intensifying. Goa police have sent a team to Delhi to arrest the club owners, Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra. Meanwhile, Bharat, 49, the daily operations manager for the club, has been arrested. The state government swiftly suspended three officers who were involved in issuing or renewing permits for the nightclub. Authorities are also questioning various government officials to check for any lapses or violations in permit procedures. "Investigation is progressing on priority, and further action will follow based on the findings," said a Goa Police statement. On December 8, a fact-finding team led by a retired judge visited the club. They promised to submit their report soon. Two government panels have been formed. The first, led by the Bardez District Magistrate, includes top police and fire officials and a forensic director, to inquire into the incident. The second panel, led by the Secretary (Revenue), will audit Standard Operating Procedures. It will inspect all nightclubs in Goa, identify violations, and suggest safety improvements. The state’s quick response aims to uncover the causes and prevent future tragedies.
