The campaign for Thursday’s Palakkad civic body elections ended in style Tuesday evening. The Left Democratic Front (LDF), United Democratic Front (UDF), and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) held vibrant, energetic rallies across the district. Party workers took to the streets singing, dancing, and chanting slogans. Cultural shows added a festive touch in many places. Bike rallies rolled through most panchayats. Thousands of women and children joined ward-level processions. Political leaders also took part. Sulthan Pet in Palakkad town saw the liveliest activity. The UDF’s final roadshow started at Jainimedu and went through many areas before ending at Sulthan Pet. The LDF’s rally began from the CPI(M) district office and traveled via Tharekkad and Head Post Office to Sulthan Pet. NDA’s roadshow started at Vadakkanthara grounds and passed Market Road, Town Railway Overbridge, and GB Road, finishing at Sulthan Pet. Most candidates rode in open vehicles, leading noisy celebrations that ended sharply at 6 p.m. On Wednesday, campaigns become silent as workers and candidates meet voters directly and distribute slips.
