Kochi Corporation's election saw a calmer voter turnout on polling day, ending at 6 p.m. with 62.52% participation, just edging past the 62.04% recorded in 2020. In 2015, turnout was higher at 69.62%. More men voted percentage-wise (64.44%) than women (60.76%), but women outnumbered men in actual votes cast—1.38 lakh women voted from 2.27 lakh voters versus 1.34 lakh men from 2.09 lakh voters. One of the two trans persons on the rolls also voted. Progress during the day was slow. Two hours after start, turnout was 12.31%, rising gradually to 44.46% by 2 p.m. It crossed 50% only after 3 p.m., but the expected surge in voters did not appear in the last hours. Some areas, like West Kochi, saw long lines. By 5 p.m., the turnout was 59.27%. Political parties expressed concern over the low youth turnout. Older voters dominated several areas. Migration and errors in electoral rolls after boundary changes were blamed for youth absenteeism. The United Democratic Front (UDF) alleged bogus voting by the CPI(M) in Puthukkalavattom and Nambyapuram divisions. Voting machines also faced glitches in some areas, causing delays in polling. Final figures may adjust slightly but the trend of a modest turnout with youth apathy and technical challenges stands clear.
