Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan Challenges Opposition on Development Projects and Welfare Schemes
December 9, 2025
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan sharply criticized Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan for opposing development projects led by the LDF government. In a Facebook post on December 9, Vijayan asked if the Congress still backed former leader M.M. Hassan's claim to scrap all four LDF initiatives, including the LIFE Mission.
He accused the Opposition of opposing the Vizhinjam port, which is now operational, and questioned if they would continue opposing the Wayanad tunnel road and coastal highway projects near completion.
Vijayan highlighted that welfare pensions given to 62 lakh people were called bribery by AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal. He asked if Satheesan considered pensioners as “bribe-takers.”
The Opposition’s past strong resistance to the National Highway development and GAIL pipeline projects was noted, but both are now realities.
The CM said Opposition resisted Kerala’s development efforts via KIIFB, which funded upgrades to schools, hospitals, and public facilities. He challenged Satheesan to state if he still opposes these improvements.
Vijayan recalled false allegations by the Opposition against Kerala’s poverty eradication drive and how Kerala Bank, K-Phone, and K-Rail projects were opposed by the Congress.
He called it bizarre that Satheesan claimed CPI(M) was “in the dock” despite sexual harassment claims involving both a CPI(M) MLA and a Youth Congress leader.
