Five Left parties strongly opposed BJP and Hindutva groups for creating communal tension in Tamil Nadu over Thirupparankundram Hill in Madurai district. The parties—CPI(M), CPI, CPI(ML) Liberation, RSP, and AIFB—said BJP labelled the hill, home to temples, a dargah, and Jain caves, as the “Ayodhya of the South.” They said BJP leaders brought outsiders and used social media to provoke incidents this February. They stated, "Seeking to extract political benefit in Tamil Nadu, BJP leaders...attempted to provoke an incident. They also used social media to vitiate the atmosphere and sow discord." The Left parties criticized a recent Madurai Bench of Madras High Court order allowing lighting the Karthigai Deepam atop a British-era survey pillar near Sikandar Badusha Dargah. They said the judgment ignored past rulings, historical records, and the Places of Worship Act, 1991, undermining state authority. They praised Madurai people and the DMK government for resisting communal forces but accused AIADMK of supporting communal elements. They condemned death threats against Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan by Hindutva groups. The statement urged democratic and secular citizens to reject divisive politics, saying such tactics distract from the Modi government's "assault on livelihoods and constitutional rights." The statement was signed by leaders M.A. Baby (CPI(M)), D. Raja (CPI), Dipankar Bhattacharya (CPI(ML) Liberation), Manoj Bhattacharya (RSP), and G. Devarajan (AIFB).
