Visa applicants in India got a surprise on Tuesday as their US visa appointments were rescheduled mostly to March 2026. This delay is because of a new rule from December 15, 2025, when the US will start checking all social media accounts of visa applicants for any negative posts about the country. The US Embassy in India confirmed the change with a message: "If you have received an email advising that your visa appointment has been rescheduled, Mission India looks forward to assisting you on your new appointment date. Arriving on your previously scheduled appointment date will result in your being denied admittance to the Consulate." Many applicants expressed worry on social media. They said the Embassy’s update was unclear. They do not know what to do until their new appointment in March. Some also fear losing their jobs as US employers may not let them work remotely from India for such a long time. One Reddit user shared their distress, saying, "I am stuck in India, have biometrics this week. I used all my leaves to come for stamping. My employer cannot allow me to work remotely. This is the end of my career, worked so hard to get a job and build my life so far, everything is gone with one single decision. I don’t know what to do since it is moved to May 2025, and I will certainly lose my job." Another person reported their visa appointment at the Chennai consulate got canceled right after biometrics. They advised others to consult their employers and immigration lawyers for guidance, hoping to find a way out of this confusing new situation.
