The Tamil Nadu government will launch the second phase of the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam programme on December 12. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will officially start the expansion at Jawaharlal Nehru indoor stadium in Chennai. The event, named ‘Vellum Thamizh Pengal,’ will highlight government successes in empowering women through many welfare schemes. Key figures such as Gandhian Krishnammal Jagannathan and Paralympics medalist Thulasimathi Murugesan will attend the event. The CM had announced the first phase of the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam on March 27, 2023, selecting 1,13,75,492 beneficiaries. Each beneficiary received ₹1,000 monthly in their bank accounts. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin had earlier promised to expand this programme further. The December 12 event will include stories from women who benefitted from schemes like Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam, Nannilam Magalir Nilavudamai Thittam, Vidiyal Payanam, Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam, Nalam Kakkum Stalin, and Thozhi Viduthigal.
