Netflix is being sued by a Warner Bros HBO Max subscriber seeking to stop its planned $72 billion buyout of Warner Bros Discovery’s studio and streaming businesses. Filed on Monday, the lawsuit argues the deal will reduce competition in the US subscription video-on-demand market. Some US lawmakers have also raised concerns about Netflix’s proposal, which may face strict antitrust review. The lawsuit states, "Netflix has demonstrated repeated willingness to raise subscription prices even while facing competition from full-scale rivals such as WBD." It adds the acquisition would remove one of Netflix’s main rivals, HBO Max, and give Netflix control over big franchises like Harry Potter, DC Comics, and Game of Thrones. Netflix has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
