North Goa Bans Fireworks Inside Tourist Spots After Deadly Nightclub Fire
December 11, 2025
Days after a deadly fire at a nightclub in North Goa killed 25 people, the district administration has banned fireworks and pyrotechnic devices inside all tourist spots. The order was issued on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, as a safety measure. "The order has been issued under Section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, prohibiting the use, bursting, ignition or operation of fireworks, sparklers, pyrotechnic effects, flame thrower-type devices, smoke generators and similar fire/smoke-producing equipment inside tourist establishments," said a senior district official. This ban applies to nightclubs, bars, restaurants, hotels, guesthouses, resorts, beach shacks, temporary structures, event venues, and entertainment establishments throughout North Goa. A preliminary investigation into the fire at 'Birch by Romeo Lane' nightclub in Arpora, which happened around midnight on December 6, found that "electric firecrackers" were used inside the club, sparking the blaze. Authorities hope the new rules will help avoid more tragic accidents.
