Rajya Sabha to Debate Election Reforms as Vande Mataram Storm Sparks Heat
December 11, 2025
The Rajya Sabha will debate election reforms on Thursday, December 11, 2025. Recently, the Upper House discussed Vande Mataram. Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused Congress of dividing the national song and promoting appeasement politics, blaming them for India’s Partition.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge responded, noting that the choice to use only the first two stanzas of Vande Mataram was not Jawaharlal Nehru’s sole decision.
The Lok Sabha held its own debate on election reforms yesterday. The discussions covered the Bihar elections and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls happening in 12 States and Union Territories.
Opposition members in Lok Sabha questioned the fairness of elections and raised concerns about the pressure caused by the SIR exercise. Meanwhile, the ruling party suggested that Opposition criticism was influenced by their recent election losses.
