Telangana Unveils Vision 2047, Targets $3 Trillion Economy and Net-Zero Emissions
December 11, 2025
More than 25 years after Andhra Pradesh launched its Vision 2020, Telangana has revealed its Vision 2047 for the future. Telangana's new plan sets a bold aim for a $3 trillion economy by 2047 and focuses strongly on technology and climate action. The word “poverty” appears far less in Vision 2047 compared to the 2020 plan, while mentions of “women” and “technology” have sharply increased.
The old Vision 2020, launched in 1999 by Governor C. Rangarajan, aimed to eradicate poverty and grow the economy to a cost of ₹16 lakh crores. Telangana’s Vision 2047, released by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, targets a ₹269 trillion economy with a strong push for AI, quantum computing, cybersecurity, and Net-Zero emissions by 2047.
The 2020 plan focused on shifting from agriculture to services and industry, projecting a fast annual growth of 9-10%. Telangana's new vision expects growth to slow gradually from 8% to 5.2% as the economy matures.
Telangana divides its land into three zones: Core Urban, which will become a global hub for DeepTech and AI; Peri-Urban areas focused on manufacturing; and Rural areas targeting climate-smart farming and agri-business.
Infrastructure projects like Bharat Future City, River Musi Rejuvenation, and bullet train corridors are planned to connect these zones with advanced transport and connectivity.
The Vision 2047 document is 83 pages long and was made with support from government officials, the Indian School of Business, and NITI Aayog, unlike Andhra Pradesh’s 337-page study prepared by McKinsey with a large consultancy fee.
