Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru has started a new lane segregation system at the pick-up zone outside Terminal 2 from December 11. Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) said the system will begin at Terminal 1 from December 13. This new rule aims to ease traffic and improve passenger experience. Initially planned for December 8, the launch was delayed due to IndiGo flight disruptions. A BIAL spokesperson said, "Following the stabilisation of the recent flight disruptions, KIA will proceed with implementation of the new pickup measures and overstay charges at the arrival kerbsides, effective December 11 at Terminal 2 and December 13 at Terminal 1. These measures are designed to streamline kerbside movement and enhance the overall landside experience for passengers and airport stakeholders, and we appreciate the continued support and cooperation of all partners during this transition." Under the new rules, drivers get 8 minutes free at the pick-up zone. Staying 8 to 13 minutes costs ₹150, 13 to 18 minutes costs ₹300. Vehicles staying over 18 minutes will be towed to the nearest police station with fines and towing charges applied. BIAL explained these measures will reduce congestion, improve safety, and maintain discipline at busy arrival spots. KIA handles about 130,000 passengers daily and sees roughly 100,000 vehicles on its roads each day, putting pressure on terminal areas. Meanwhile, IndiGo's flight disruptions continue. On December 11, 60 flights were cancelled at KIA, including 32 arrivals and 28 departures, marking the 10th day of disruptions at the airport.
