In Karassery panchayat, Kozhikode, BJP booth agents boycotted election proceedings on Thursday. They alleged "abnormality" in open vote casting. The agents at Karamoola claimed over 10 open votes were cast within just one hour after polling started, under suspicious conditions. They also said there were attempts to arrange paid votes. BJP local leaders told the media that the presiding officers did not address their complaints. They said, "There was no move to screen such a strange open voting pattern." Election officials declined to comment on these claims. Meanwhile, more police officers were deployed in the area to maintain order. In Kozhikode district overall, voter turnout hit 15.99% within two and a half hours on Thursday. Out of 26,82,682 voters, 4,29,752 cast their votes by 9:30 a.m. This included 2,09,688 men and 2,19,332 women.
