Life-Threatening Bushfires Trigger Evacuations and Road Closures in Perth Suburbs
December 11, 2025
A life-threatening bushfire is burning near suburban homes in Perth, with residents warned to leave immediately. The WA Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued an emergency warning for parts of Kenwick, Wattle Grove, Maddington, and Beckenham in Perth’s south-east on Thursday. "You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive," the department said. "There is a threat to lives and homes." Homes near Bickley Road and Boundary Road face risk from the fire. Residents were advised: "If it is safe to do so, leave in a southerly direction towards Albany Highway." An evacuation centre is open at Maddington community centre, set up by the Department of Communities. A DFES spokesman said some "outside structures" may have been lost. Firefighters have set up a barrier around East Kenwick primary school, with a pickup point for parents. ABC reported that Rehoboth Christian College was evacuated due to the fire burning near Kenwick wetlands. TV footage shows homes in a semi-rural area close to the blaze, which partly burns in a wetlands nature reserve. The fire moved east on Thursday afternoon, with multiple roads closed due to the emergency. A second emergency warning was issued for a blaze in Perth’s north-east near Bullsbrook and Upper Swan. This fire burns close to Walyunga National Park and remains uncontrolled. Residents there were told to leave if safe. Perth’s temperature hit 30C by midday Thursday, with high fire danger warnings in place for the metropolitan area.
