The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) claimed the chairperson post in Kalyandurgam Municipality on December 11, 2025. TDP councillor T. Goutami from the 15th ward defeated Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) councillor M. Lakshmanna. The election followed the removal of the previous chairperson, Talari Rajkumar of YSRCP, in October 2025 over misuse of power charges. Rajkumar, elected in 2021, was known as a former roadside fruit seller turned leader. Out of 24 ward members, 22 voted along with two ex officio members: Anantapur TDP MP G. Lakshminarayana and MLA Amilineni Surendra Babu. Two ward members abstained. Ms. Goutami secured 13 votes, while Mr. Lakshmanna got 11. Election Presiding Officer Vasanth Babu declared Ms. Goutami the winner and administered the oath. MP Lakshminarayana, MLA Surendra Babu, and Municipal Commissioner Vamsi Krishna Bhargav were present during the event.
