Chittoor Police Fines ₹1 Lakh on 10 Drunk Drivers in Special Drive

Chittoor police caught 10 motorists driving under the influence of alcohol during a special enforcement drive on Thursday. Each driver was fined ₹10,000, totaling ₹1 lakh, said Circle Inspector K. Lakshminarayana. The checks were ordered by Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi and took place within the Municipal Corporation limits. All offenders appeared before Principal Junior Civil Court Judge Umadevi, who imposed the fines. Mr. Lakshminarayana warned that drunk driving is a serious crime that risks lives on the road. He urged all drivers to follow traffic rules to avoid accidents and punishments. According to Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, first-time offenders can face fines up to ₹10,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. Repeat offenders risk fines up to ₹15,000 and imprisonment up to three years. Police said strict checks will continue to keep the district’s roads safe.
