CBI charges 13 in digital arrest fraud linked to Myanmar ‘slave compounds’
December 12, 2025
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has exposed "slave compounds" in Myanmar and nearby areas as key centers of digital arrest frauds. The agency charged 13 people in a major case under Operation Chakra-V. These compounds force trafficked Indians to run call-centre cybercrimes. CBI found that masterminds from Cambodia, Hong Kong, and China controlled important bank accounts used to steal victims’ money. In October 2025, CBI searched locations in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Kerala, and West Bengal. They seized electronic devices, communication logs, and financial records. Three accused have been arrested and are in custody. The investigation reviewed over 15,000 IP addresses. It confirmed wide cross-border links and identified India-based operatives. The findings match CBI’s probe into cyber slavery and organized digital crime in Southeast Asia. CBI has charged 13 accused within 60 days and is continuing to hunt more conspirators and overseas links. Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is investigating human trafficking related to cyber slavery. NIA found a broad network across Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Maharashtra, and Punjab. Young Indians were lured with fake job offers and trafficked to Southeast Asia. Their passports were taken away, and they were forced to commit cyber frauds under mental and physical torture, including electric shocks. This crackdown highlights India’s fight against cybercrime and human trafficking networks operating across borders.
