Civic polls in the newly formed Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will likely take place in the middle of 2026. A government source said the Cabinet agreed to propose April or May 2026 to the Election Commission. The GBA is working on the reservation roster for 369 wards across five city corporations. The State government has promised to notify the reservation by December 15. The GBA was formally launched on September 2. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar stated that the delimitation and reservation processes would finish by November 30. However, delays occurred due to the Social and Education Survey and other tasks. A GBA source said reservation work is in its final stages and will finish soon. If all goes well, civic polls delayed by five years will finally happen in 2026. Panchayat polls must be held first, then elections for the five new corporations. Political parties have started their groundwork and are searching for candidates. A senior Congress leader told The Hindu that picking candidates is difficult because of new wards and many new faces. Civic issues in Bengaluru became a hot topic last month as parties launched campaigns against ongoing and planned city projects.
