3 Killed as Coconut-Loaded Truck Falls Into Canal in Bapatla

Three people died when a truck carrying coconuts fell into a canal between Donepudi and Kotipalli villages in Kolluru mandal, Bapatla district on Friday around 1:30 p.m. The truck was transporting coconuts from Lanka villages of Kolluru mandal to Cherukupalli. District Superintendent of Police B. Umamaheswar said the vehicle went out of control and fell into a roadside canal. There were three people inside the truck cabin and four seated atop the vehicle at the time. The deceased were identified as Chatragadda Kanta Rao, 50, and Pesarlanka Srinivasa Rao, 55, from Chintamotu village, and Sheikh Ismail, 60, from Vellaturu. Three others were injured and taken to Tenali Government Hospital. Police have launched a detailed investigation. The SP added, "Nine special teams have been formed to monitor compliance with road safety rules on national highways."
