Andhra Pradesh Orders Twice-Monthly E-Waste Drives Across All Urban Local Bodies
December 13, 2025
Andhra Pradesh has introduced a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for managing electronic waste in all 123 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). The Municipal Administration & Urban Development Department has ordered twice-monthly e-waste collection drives on the 10th and 20th of every month. These drives will involve designated collection points, strict records, and a dedicated Nodal Officer in each ULB. The government warned that discarded electronics like mobile phones, computers, cables, and home appliances have toxic parts that harm the environment and health if dumped in regular garbage. All collected e-waste must be handed to authorised recyclers approved by the Swachha Andhra Corporation (SAC). Previously, only 46 ULBs complied despite a deal with M/s RE Sustainability Private Limited, leading to this new uniform SOP with stronger monitoring. The SAC will monitor progress through a central dashboard, with mandatory monthly and quarterly reports. Public awareness campaigns will run in schools, colonies, and neighbourhoods. The scheme will also affect district rankings under the Swarna Andhra Swachha Andhra (SASA) programme. Principal Secretary S. Suresh Kumar said the SOP guarantees full tracking "from the household to the authorised recycler" and stressed that citizen involvement is key to avoiding long-term damage.
