Fake QR Codes in Dubai Parking Scam Steal Drivers’ Bank Info
December 14, 2025
A new scam is hitting Dubai’s parking spots. Scammers put fake QR codes on parking signs. Drivers who scan these codes risk exposing their personal and bank information. A video showing this trick went viral online.
Parkin Company PJSC, Dubai’s biggest paid parking provider, confirmed the scam. The company told Khaleej Times, "All identified fraudulent QR codes have been removed." They also fixed misused codes to lead users to the official Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) website.
Scammers hide fake stickers over real QR codes. This makes the fake codes hard to spot. Dubai’s parking signs all use QR codes to help drivers pay quickly. Paying through mobile or mParking services saves 30 fils compared to SMS payments.
When scanned properly, the QR code opens an App Clips feature linked to the Parkin App. This lets users pay instantly using their stored bank card, without needing to download anything.
Parkin urges drivers to only use authorized payment ways. They thanked the public for reporting suspicious codes. The company warned, "Fake QR codes can steal sensitive information, including personal and bank details." They advise relying on official platforms like the RTA app or Parkin for parking payments.
