A lorry driver was arrested by Shankarampet Police in Medak district after a serious road accident killed four members of a family on the evening of December 13. The family was traveling from Hyderabad to their native Nizamsagar in Kamareddy district to cast their votes. The victims were Kurma Lingamaiah, 48, his wife Kurma Saiamma, 42, and their children Kurma Sai, 15, and Kurma Manasa, 13. The accident took place around 7:30 p.m. at Kollapally village on National Highway 161. Police said the lorry driven by L. Ishwar had no indicators or lights on. The family was riding a two-wheeler that crashed into the lorry from behind. Investigators found that Sai, the minor rider, did not spot the lorry in time, causing the collision. Police stated, "Preliminary findings pointed to negligence on the part of both the rider and the lorry driver." A case has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing.
