Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, MP for Mysuru, said on Sunday that Kannada should always be a top priority in Karnataka. He stressed the need to protect and promote the language while highlighting the importance of learning other languages for success. Speaking at the Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations at the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), he said, "While learning other languages is also necessary, Kannada must always remain the priority in our State." He added that knowing multiple languages gives people an advantage in personal and professional life. Mr. Wadiyar said the Mysuru-based CIIL could become a model institution for promoting all Indian languages and protecting linguistic diversity. On development, he urged better use of infrastructure to meet Kannadigas' goals. He asked, "How best this infrastructure is leveraged for economic growth should remain the focus," and stressed the need to ensure government facilities are used effectively. The MP also said Karnataka's culture and heritage must be preserved. He noted, "If the goal of Viksit Bharat is to be achieved, Viksit Karnataka is equally important." Expressing concern, he said Karnataka is losing ground to other states in technology, citing Hyderabad and Warangal's new projects like Quantum City and Aero City. Though Karnataka led the IT revolution, he said recent setbacks must be fixed with strong systems to regain leadership. Mr. Wadiyar also honored historian Aluru Venkata Rao for his key role in Karnataka's unification, saying Rao deserves equal recognition among leaders. CIIL Director Shailendra Mohan, Vice-Chancellor N.K. Lokanath, and others attended the event.
