Bengaluru Fines ₹3-5 Lakh Daily in Night Patrols Against Littering
December 14, 2025
Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) has ramped up night patrols to fight littering and black spots in the city. Marshals now patrol between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. and fine offenders on the spot. According to Chief Executive Officer Karee Gowda, "We are collecting nearly ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh in fines every day as we strictly enforce the law by cracking down on littering." In areas where black spots persist, marshals work an extra hour to catch late-night dumpers. An official explained, "Many individuals who work late step out at midnight to dump garbage, which is why black spots continue to exist in some regions." However, residents in Ejipura, Suddaguntepalya, and Tavarekere complain about irregular garbage vehicle timings worsening the problem. Dheeman Garg from Ejipura said, "There is no fixed timing here... every lane in this area greets people with garbage, and black spots extend for over 50 metres." Mr. Gowda promised to act immediately on such complaints and asked residents to report issues. BSWML also fines repeat offenders. Recently, a viral video showed a Ward 29 resident, Sandeep, dumping three large garbage bags from his car. He was fined ₹5,000. Marshals identify offenders by checking bills and documents found in garbage piles. The crackdown aims to clean up Bengaluru's black spots by punishing litterbugs and improving waste collection.
