Kerala Congress (M) denies poor poll results, cites wins in Pala and seat retention
December 14, 2025
A day after Kerala’s local body election results, Kerala Congress (M) [KC(M)] on Sunday said there is a misinformation campaign against it. KC(M) district president Lopes Mathew denied claims of poor election performance. He pointed to the Pala Assembly constituency, where United Democratic Front (UDF) won 91 seats, and Left Democratic Front (LDF) bagged 87 seats in grama panchayats and municipal wards. In Pala municipality, KC(M) kept 10 out of 11 seats from the last election, losing one narrowly. The party also held important district panchayat divisions and regained the Kidangoor division, which includes Kozhuvanal, Mutholi, and parts of Karoor panchayats. Mr. Mathew said this showed the party’s strong presence across the Pala constituency’s district panchayat, municipality, and local bodies. He also admitted the party’s total seats dropped from 208 in the last polls to 152 this time. Mr. Mathew noted that while LDF increased its seat count and took back seven panchayats from UDF in Kottayam district, BJP’s vote gains benefited UDF overall.
