Thin Attendance Shadows Karnataka Assembly Session in Belagavi
December 15, 2025
The Karnataka Assembly session in Belagavi is struggling with low attendance. On December 15, only around 50 of the 224 MLAs were present during the tribute to senior MLA Shamanuru Shivashankarappa. The Opposition made up half of those present. Earlier in the session's first week, the house saw about 100 members, with half from the Opposition. The ruling Congress, holding 135 seats excluding two deceased members, also saw poor turnout. This thin attendance is troubling, especially since the session is held in Belagavi to highlight north Karnataka's development. Even debates on these critical regional issues see low participation from MLAs.
