The Central government has granted censor approval to four out of 19 films waiting for clearance at the 30th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). The festival runs from December 12 to 19 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The cleared movies include Beef, Eagles of The Republic, Heart of The Wolf, and Once Upon A Time In Gaza, officials confirmed on December 16, 2025. Beef follows the story of Lati, a young woman from Barcelona’s outskirts who uses freestyle rap to fight grief, prejudice, and gender barriers following her father’s death. The remaining 15 films still await approval. Among these is Sergei Eisenstein’s 100-year-old classic, Battleship Potemkin, a film about the 1905 sailors’ mutiny against harsh officers and maggot-infested food. This film is known as a symbol of collective resistance in cinema. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor called the denial of censorship clearance to Battleship Potemkin "laughable" in a post on X. The festival features many titles related to the Palestine conflict as well. The final decision on screening the rest of the films is still pending as the festival continues.
