The Congress party is deep in talks about who will fill the Mayor and Deputy Mayor posts in the Thrissur Corporation. With state Assembly elections near, the party wants to balance community representation between these roles. Subi Babu and Laly James are top contenders. Congress plans to split the mayoral term into two or three parts, alternating between majority and minority communities. Subi Babu, a former Deputy Mayor, and Laly James, who won against CPI(M)'s Mayor candidate, are both seasoned councillors entering their fourth term. For Deputy Mayor, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee secretary A. Prasad is being seriously considered. The final choice will come after discussions with district leaders and senior Congress figures like AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal, Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan, and Ramesh Chennithala. Newly elected councillors will be sworn in on December 21. The elections for Mayor and Deputy Mayor will take place on December 26.
