Hyderabad Manages Tight Traffic with VIP Visits and Christmas Feast
December 20, 2025
Hyderabad started Saturday with tight traffic controls due to major VIP movements and public events. The President moved from Rashtrapati Nilayam, Bollarum to Gachibowli. The Vice President traveled from Begumpet Airport to Lok Bhavan. The Christmas Feast at LB Stadium, expected to host around 10,000 people and attended by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, added to traffic planning. Roadworks slowed traffic in parts of the city. Near Mehdipatnam, skywalk construction closed two lanes between Rethibowli Junction and SD Eye Hospital. Vehicles shared the remaining lanes, causing delays. Drivers were advised to avoid the PVNR Expressway corridor between pillar numbers 40 and 1. Diversions were set up via Nanal Nagar, Gudimalkapur, and Asif Nagar. By 11 a.m., slow traffic was reported near the Joyalukkas stretch and at Balamrai Junction, GP Complex, Fathenagar Bridge, and Balkampet Temple Road. Hyderabad Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis said, "We are not forecasting major congestion at this stage. Diversions are dynamic and will be implemented only if required." Additional restrictions existed in the Aramgarh-Attapur area due to roadworks near Mythri Hospital. Cyberabad traffic police set multiple diversions for vehicles from Durganagar, Bahadurpura, and Shamshabad directed to Attapur and Mehdipatnam. These routes included Aramgarh underpass, Manmohan Singh flyover, Shivrampally Kaman, and PVNR Expressway. Drivers were warned of possible slowdowns during peak hours. Attention now turns to evening hours when VIP convoys and event crowds may overlap. Cyberabad expects congestion from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on key routes including Cable Bridge, IKEA flyover, Road No. 45, Gachibowli, and IIIT junction, coinciding with the President's visit to Brahma Kumaris centre.
