An Indian-origin man in Singapore, Kokulananthan Mohan, 26, was charged on Monday for making a false terrorist threat at St Joseph's Church in Upper Bukit Timah. The suspicious items he left led to all Sunday services being cancelled. Police said Kokulananthan placed three cardboard rolls containing stone pebbles and red wires, wrapped in adhesive tape, inside the church around 7:11 am. The act aimed to make people believe the items could explode or cause harm. The Singapore Police Force described the items as "a self-fabricated item which resembled an improvised explosive device." Authorities confirmed Kokulananthan acted alone, and there is no proof the incident was religiously motivated or a real terror act. He was remanded for three weeks for psychiatric evaluation and will return to court on January 12. Kokulananthan told the court his past hospital visit was due to alcohol issues and claimed his behavior was affected by lack of sleep from night shifts. The judge said these points would be reviewed during evaluation. If found guilty, Kokulananthan faces up to 10 years in jail, a fine of SGD 500,000 ($386,757), or both.
