After the honour killing of pregnant woman Manya Doddamani in Inam Veerapur, Hubballi taluk, Dalit groups demanded urgent action from the Karnataka government. At a press meet, Gurunath Ullakashi of Samata Sena Karnataka said, "Constitutional rights are being violated as existing legal provisions have failed to stop honour killing." Since 2011, many honour killing cases, mostly involving women, have been reported in the state. Mr. Ullakashi criticized Social Welfare Department officials for their "sheer institutional indifference," noting that no officer visited the hospital or reached out to the victim's family after the incident. He also pointed out a lack of sustained intervention by women’s welfare and human rights groups. Comparing recent cases, he said there is "selective public sympathy and unequal official attention." The organizations vowed to continue their protests if justice is delayed. Mr. Ullakashi urged the government to introduce a special law exclusively to address honour killings. He also called for rehabilitation measures for the victim’s family, including "the allotment of 10 acres of land and a government job." Other leaders present included Gurappa Chalawadi of Uttar Karnataka Chalawadi Mahasabha, Shakkana Doddamani of Madiga Mahasabha, Shatraiya Pola of Dora Mahasabha, Devanna Itagi of Muchigera Mahasabha, Manjunath Ullakashi, Hanumanth Talwar, and Lohit Gavingatti. They condemned the killing strongly and demanded strict punishment for all accused.
