Telangana Farmers Urged to Boost Vegetable and Milk Production for Self-Sufficiency and Exports

Telangana Planning Board Vice Chairman G. Chinnareddy wants farmers to be self-sufficient in vegetable and milk production. He spoke at an event marking the 11th Foundation Day of Telangana Horticulture University and National Farmers’ Day. Mr. Chinnareddy asked the central and state governments to provide subsidies to expand fruit and vegetable farming. He stressed the need for a skill development centre at the university to attract youth to horticulture. He highlighted Kollapur mangoes and Balanagar custard apples, urging more research to boost exports and farmers’ income. He said, "There is a need to implement horticulture-focused policies similar to those implemented by the Maharashtra government." Telangana Horticulture University Vice-Chancellor Danda Rajireddy said the state aims to cultivate vegetables on more than 12 lakh acres. He promised new research projects on advanced technologies like AI, machine learning, and remote sensing. A special lecture on AI in horticulture was delivered by S.D. Shikhamani, former Vice-Chancellor of YSR Horticultural University.
