BJP Plans Delegation to Stop Karnataka Hate Speech Bill Approval by Governor
December 23, 2025
The BJP is taking strong action against the new Karnataka Hate Speech and Hate Crimes (Prevention) Bill, 2025. The party held protests across Karnataka on Tuesday, calling the Bill "anti-democratic" and against free speech. BJP State president B. Y. Vijayendra said a delegation will visit Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot at Raj Bhavan next week. The BJP wants the Governor to stop giving consent to the Bill, which was passed recently in the State Legislature's Winter Session in Belagavi. Petitions against the Bill were also submitted to district and taluk magistrates, as well as the Governor and Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner in Bengaluru. The BJP protests took place in front of the tahsildar’s office in Shikaripura, Shivamogga district, among other places.
